The good news is that KUCCPS allows anyone who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education KCSE to apply for KUCCPS TVET courses from diploma to certificate level.

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) is a State Corporation that provides career guidance and selects students for admission to universities, national polytechnics, technical training institutes and other accredited higher learning institutions for Government of Kenya-sponsored programmes.

KUCCPS was established to coordinate the placement of Government-sponsored students to Kenyan universities and colleges; develop and implement career guidance programmes; disseminate information on available programmes; and collect and retain data relating to university and college placement, among other functions.

KUCCPS is the Government of Kenya body that undertakes the selection of students for admission to higher learning institutions for Government sponsorship.

For beginners, KUCCPS TVET courses refer to any programmes, ranging from diploma to artisan certificate, that are being offered by Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) institutes in the country.

They include programmes offered from Technical training institutes (e.g. NTTI), National Polytechnics (e.g Kisii polytechnic) and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) among others.

Benefits of applying for KUCCPS placement.

The biggest benefit of applying for admission through KUCCPS is that once you are successfully placed you become government sponsored.

That means that the government offers capitation (subsidies) to pay part of your fees. You don’t pay full fees.

The total fee for an academic year for a TVET course is about sh. 56,420. The government’s subsidy covers sh.30000. Students who are unable to pay the remaining amount are advised to seek a loan from the Higher Education and Loans Board (HELB).

Requirements For KUCCPS TVET courses

For diploma programs you need to have a minimum KCSE grade of C-, for craft certificate courses you’ll need a D+(plus) and above and for craft certificate courses you’ll need a KCSE mean grade of D-(minus) or E.

It means anyone who did KCSE and attained a mean grade of E and above now qualifies to join a tertiary institution and further their careers.

That’s not all. You can start from one level and quickly move up the ladder.
