Requirements for applying for birth certificate
Step 1
To begin the process, start by gathering the necessary documents required.
These include:
The child’s hospital birth notification. Copies of the parents’ IDs.
The marriage certificate if applicable.

You head over to the official eCitizen website at https://www.ecitizen.go.ke/. If you don’t already have an account, you’ll need to register in order to proceed.

Once registered, use your credentials to log in to your eCitizen account.
After logging in, navigate to the “Civil Registration Services” section on the eCitizen dashboard. This is where you’ll initiate the application process.
Click on the option labeled “Apply for a Birth Certificate” to get started with the application.
Fill in the application form with accurate details. Provide information such as the child’s name, date and place of birth, as well as details about the parents.
Step 4
Scan and upload the relevant documents. This includes the child’s hospital birth notification, the parents’ IDs, and the marriage certificate if it applies.
It’s crucial to ensure accuracy, so correct any mistakes if necessary.
Step 5
Proceed making the required payment for processing. This is done using the available online payment methods.
Once the payment is confirmed, submit the application. You receive a notification confirming that your application has been received.
Step 6
You can keep track of the progress of your application through the eCitizen portal. It may take some time for the certificate to be processed.

Upon approval, you’ll receive a notification. Log in to your eCitizen account, where you can then download the birth certificate. Be sure to print it for your records.
