The Kenyatta University student portal gives you access to all your academic services in one place. Here is how to use every feature effectively.
Accessing the KU Student Portal
The Kenyatta University student portal is at students.ku.ac.ke. Also accessible through the main KU website (ku.ac.ke) under the Students menu. Your login credentials: username is your student registration number (e.g., D61/12345/2024), and your initial password is issued at registration or through your official KU email. First-time users should log in and change the default password immediately. The portal is optimized for Chrome and Firefox — Internet Explorer and older browsers may have display issues.
Key Portal Services
Unit registration — register for your semester’s units within the registration window at the start of each semester. Units not registered cannot be examined. Examination results — view results after faculty release. Fee balance — check your fee balance, view payment history, and download a fee statement. Timetable — access your lecture and examination timetable. Hostel application — apply for on-campus accommodation during opening windows. Supplementary exam registration — register for supplementary examinations within the advertised window. Transcript request — initiate transcript requests. Student email — link to your official KU Microsoft 365 email account.
Unit Registration Process
Unit registration on the KU portal: log in at the start of semester, navigate to ‘Academic Registration’ or ‘Unit Registration’, select the units specified in your programme for the current semester, review your selections carefully before submitting (wrong unit registration cannot be easily corrected after the window closes), submit your registration and save or print the confirmation. Registration is only possible after your fees are partially cleared (typically 60% minimum). If fee clearance is preventing registration, visit the finance office with a payment plan before the registration window closes.
Checking Examination Results
KU examination results are released through the student portal under ‘Academic Records’ or ‘Examinations.’ Results are released faculty-by-faculty after the university examinations office processes them — expect results 4–8 weeks after the examination period ends. If your results show an incomplete or missing grade: confirm you sat the examination and your exam registration was correctly processed, contact your faculty examinations coordinator with your exam registration confirmation as evidence, and follow up through the department if the issue is not resolved within 2 weeks of your faculty’s release date.
Fee Payment at KU
KU fee payments are accepted through: Equity Bank account deposits (using your student registration number as the reference), M-Pesa Paybill (confirm the current KU Paybill number from the finance office or official KU communications — not from social media which may have outdated numbers), and the KU online payment portal linked from students.ku.ac.ke. After payment, upload your payment receipt or confirmation through the portal if required, or present it at the finance office for manual updating. Allow 2–3 business days for payments to reflect in your portal account balance.
