KMTC admission is competitive and the application process has specific steps that must be followed correctly. Here is the complete guide.
Check Your Eligibility First
Before applying, confirm you meet the requirements for your chosen KMTC programme: Clinical Medicine — KCSE C plain with C in Biology AND C in Chemistry or Physics. Nursing (KRCHN) — KCSE C plain with C in Biology AND C in English or Kiswahili. Pharmacy — KCSE C plain with C in Biology AND C in Chemistry. Medical Laboratory — KCSE C plain with C in Biology AND C in Chemistry. All programmes: Kenyan citizen, age 17–35 at time of admission, medical fitness, and good conduct. If your grades do not meet the subject requirements for your preferred programme, identify an alternative programme where your grades qualify before applying.
The Online Application Process
Step 1 — Visit kmtc.ac.ke and navigate to the Admissions section. Step 2 — Create an account on the KMTC online application portal (email address and password required). Step 3 — Complete the personal details section of your application (name, date of birth, county of origin, contact details). Step 4 — Enter your KCSE results (index number, year, school, subject grades). Step 5 — Select your programme preference (up to 3 programmes in order of preference) and your campus preference (up to 3 campuses in order of preference). Step 6 — Upload required documents. Step 7 — Pay the application fee through the specified payment channels (M-Pesa or bank). Step 8 — Submit your application before the closing date. Print or save your application confirmation number.
Required Documents
Documents required for the KMTC application: certified copy of KCSE certificate or result slip, certified copy of birth certificate, certified copy of national ID (or parent/guardian ID for applicants under 18), two recent passport-size photographs, and the application fee payment confirmation. ‘Certified copies’ means stamped by a Commissioner for Oaths, a bank manager, or a government officer — photocopies alone are not accepted. Prepare these before the application window opens so you are ready to submit on day one.
Medical Examination After Shortlisting
Shortlisted KMTC applicants are required to undergo a medical examination at a government hospital or approved facility before final admission. The medical examination assesses: general physical fitness, vision and hearing (essential for clinical practice), absence of communicable diseases, and physical suitability for the health training programme. Applicants who do not pass the medical examination are not admitted regardless of their academic qualifications. Do not delay your medical examination once notified — the medical clearance window is typically limited.
Accepting Your Admission
Successful KMTC applicants receive an admission letter specifying: their campus, programme, and reporting date. Accept your admission by: paying the first semester fee by the specified deadline (the admission letter will specify the fee payment deadline and method), presenting the fee payment confirmation and required documents at your campus on the specified reporting date, and collecting your student registration materials at the campus during reporting week. Failure to report by the specified date or to pay fees by the deadline forfeits your admission place.
