KNEC Craft Certificate examinations are administered through your enrolled institution. Here is everything you need to know to ensure smooth registration.
How Registration Works
KNEC TVET exam registration is managed through your institution’s examination coordinator — not individual self-registration for most programs. Your institution submits a candidate list to KNEC each examination period. Your responsibilities: ensure tuition fees are fully paid (most institutions block registration for outstanding balances), confirm your name and details are correctly recorded on the candidates list, and pay your KNEC examination fees (approximately KSh 3,000–6,000/sitting) through your institution or directly as instructed.
Calendar and Deadlines
KNEC TVET examinations run in two primary windows: approximately May/June and October/November. Institutional registration deadlines fall approximately 10–12 weeks before exams. Your institution’s coordinator will communicate specific internal deadlines — confirm these at the start of each academic year. Do not wait until exams are approaching.
Confirming Your Registration
After paying examination fees, receive your registration slip from your institution confirming: your candidate index number, examination subjects, and examination centre. Verify all details immediately — especially your name spelling. Confirm your exam centre location and timetable once KNEC publishes them (approximately 4–6 weeks before exams) on knec.ac.ke.
Re-Sits and Private Candidates
Students re-sitting a failed paper register as private candidates directly with KNEC at a regional office or designated examination centre. Required: previous results slip showing the failed paper, national ID, and private candidate registration fee. Private candidate deadlines align with institutional registration — do not miss these windows.
Results and Certificates
Results published on knec.ac.ke and communicated to institutions approximately 2–4 months after exams. Certificates issued approximately 3–6 months after results publication. Collect from your institution’s examination office with national ID and original registration slip. Your results slip is accepted as evidence of qualification while waiting for the physical certificate.
