The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has officially opened its application portal for the 2025 university and college intake.

An announcement made on Friday, March 28, invites 2024 KCSE candidates to apply for degree programs, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses, and Teacher Training College (TTC) programs. This placement process ensures students secure admission to institutions that align with their academic and career aspirations.

How to Apply for KUCCPS University and TVET Placement 2025

KUCCPS encourages all eligible candidates who sat for KCSE between 2000 and 2024 to log into the portal and select their preferred courses. This allows both recent and past candidates to pursue further education and training.

“The KUCCPS portal is now open for Degree, TVET, and TTC applications. Target: 2024 KCSE candidates for degree courses and 2000-2024 KCSE candidates for TVET and TTC courses,” KUCCPS announced.

This initiative ensures accessibility to education for students across different academic backgrounds.

Steps to Apply for KUCCPS Placement

  1. Visit the official KUCCPS portal.
  2. Enter your KCSE index number, exam year, and password.
  3. Use your KCPE index number or birth certificate number as your password.
  4. Select your preferred courses and institutions.
  5. Submit your application before the deadline.

The application period will run for three weeks, with the deadline set for April 21. Candidates are encouraged to apply early to avoid last-minute challenges.

Universities and Colleges Covered in KUCCPS Placement

KUCCPS facilitates placement into 40 public universities, where students qualify for government scholarships and higher education funding. This financial support ensures affordability and accessibility to higher education.

Additionally, 29 private universities are included in the placement process. However, students joining private universities will only be eligible for higher education loans, not government scholarships.

The portal also features 263 public colleges, allowing students to access both government scholarships and funding. These institutions provide excellent alternatives for students pursuing technical and vocational training.

2024 KCSE Results: How Many Students Qualified for Direct University Entry?

The 2024 KCSE results revealed that 246,391 students attained the C+ minimum university entry grade, marking a notable increase from the 201,133 students recorded in 2023.

During the January 9 release of results at Mitihani House, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba highlighted that this figure represents 25.53% of the 965,501 candidates who sat the national exam. This increase is attributed to curriculum improvements and revised grading criteria.

KCSE 2024 Performance Breakdown

  • 1,693 students attained an A grade, compared to 1,216 in 2023.
  • 7,782 students scored A- (minus).
  • The revised grading system, emphasizing mathematics, one language, and the best five subjects, contributed to the improved performance.

Despite these achievements, a significant number of students did not meet the university entry threshold. A total of 719,110 candidates—74.47% of the total—scored between C plain and E.
