Mobile phone repair is one of Kenya’s most consistently demanded technical skills. Online learning builds foundational knowledge before or alongside formal training.
Best Free YouTube Resources
JerryRigEverything — Detailed smartphone teardowns and repairs. Excellent for understanding internal components. REWA Technology — Professional board repair and micro-soldering tutorials. Fixez.com tutorials — Model-specific repair guides for common phones. iPad Rehab (Jessa Jones) — Advanced logic board repair. Search specifically for Kenyan mobile repair content covering local market context, common models in Kenya, and parts sourcing from Luthuli Avenue.
Paid Online Platforms
Udemy — Mobile phone repair courses at KSh 400–1,500 during sales. Covers screen replacement, battery replacement, and diagnostics. Lifetime access. iFixit Pro — The most comprehensive repair guide database available. YouTube’s REWA channel is effectively free advanced professional training — do not overlook it.
What Must Be Learned Hands-On
Physical repair skills — handling delicate ribbon cables, micro-soldering, screen adhesive work — require supervised practice on actual devices. Plan to practice on broken phones from Jiji.co.ke (KSh 200–1,000 for damaged units) alongside online learning. Disassembling and reassembling phones repeatedly builds confidence that videos cannot teach alone.
Formal TVET Certification
For KNEC certification: enroll in a Craft Certificate in ICT or Electronic Equipment Repair at an accredited TVET institution. NITA conducts trade tests in Electronic Equipment Repair including mobile technology. Physical enrollment is required for formal certification regardless of online learning.
Income from Mobile Repair
